Gates and Bosses

At two points within the program there are mandatory activities that must be completed and reviewed at an appointment with a Career Coach to unlock your micro-certificate.

It is not until after these mandatory activities are completed and reviewed that the application for the Future Ready Premium Program Micro-Certificate Badge will unlock.

The modules you are about to begin include media and activities to complete.

If you are not familiar with MyCanvas, start by viewing the Canvas Overview for students video to become familiar with the system in general.

Mouse and Keyboard Navigation

When accessing the media within each module use the smaller arrows, located in the right corner of the media player, to navigate through the slides. You may also use your keyboard to navigate through the media content:

Tab / Shift+Tab – Use the Tab key to move from one object to the next. Use Shift+Tab to move in reverse order.

Arrow Keys - Use the arrow keys to scroll through text, interact with media, and navigate between items in a lesson, block, or question.

Enter / Spacebar - Use the Enter key or spacebar to activate the selected object (similar to a mouse click).

Esc - Use the Esc key to close labeled graphic markers, deselect choices in matching questions, and exit zoomed images and full-screen videos.

Use the small arrows in the bottom right corner of the media to navigate through the slides.

Accessing Resources

There are two different ways to access the resources and worksheets for the module activities.

The first way to access resources and worksheets is to use the buttons that appear on the slides in each module:

The second option for accessing resources and worksheets is to use the menu button at the top left-hand side of the media window, then use the Resources tab:

resource menu — Step 1 - Select the menu icon on the left-hand side of the media. Step 2 - Select the Resources tab along the top menu.

The Resources tab contains all of the activity sheets for the module you are currently completing.

Note: We are working to resolve issues with downloading assignment worksheets in Chrome. If you experience this while using Chrome, right-click on the assignment link and select ‘Open link in incognito window’ – this will help start the download.

Navigating Pages and Modules

Once you have viewed all slides and completed all activities in a module, you may use the larger arrow button located below the media to navigate to the next screen:

The Instructions section and rubric for each activity will tell you which items must be submitted to complete the modules:

Submitting Activities

The Assignments section located within each module is where you will upload your completed worksheets for submission:

Complete all the modules, activities, and professional communication simulation to unlock the Future Ready Premium Program Micro-Certificate Badge application.

Listening to Course Content

Interested in being able to listen to text based materials in the Future Ready Premium Program course?

Mohawk College has implemented a text-to-speech tool within MyCanvas: ReadSpeaker.

ReadSpeaker is a text-to-speech tool, which allows text-based online content to be instantly converted to audio. Just one click, and the text on a page is simultaneously read aloud and highlighted so users can easily follow along, regardless of device used. As the text is read, the page will scroll down automatically.

Select any text on a page and a pop-up menu appears with the Listen, Translation, and Dictionary features.

In addition, the NaturalReader website is also a free, professional, text-to-speech program that can be used for PDFs, Docs, txt, rtf, epub, files external to MyCanvas.

Pro Tip: Text-to-speech is an excellent tool for proof reading your own written work!
